The Third Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting on Food Security opened in Beijing on September 19, 2014. Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
Mr. Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture, and Mr. Ren Zhengxiao, Administrator of the State Administration of Grain, co-chaired the Meeting. Around 200 delegates, including ministerial officials from 20 APEC economies and representatives of relevant international organizations, participated in the Meeting.

Focusing on the theme of "strengthening regional cooperation, ensuring food security", the delegates delivered speeches and exchanged views on promoting regional communication and cooperation in agricultural and food sectors. They deliberated strategies and roadmaps on regional food security, and reached consensus on three major issues in this regard, namely, boosting agricultural productivity and food production on the basis of S&T innovation; improving post-harvest management to reduce food losses; and strengthening regional cooperation to promote food security.
The Meeting concluded with the issuance of the Beijing Declaration on APEC Food Security (see Annex).
A number of meetings on agriculture and food security were also held in Beijing from September 12 to 17, 2014, including the third APEC Senior Official Meeting on Food Security, the Agricultural Technical Cooperation Working Group Meeting, and the Strategic Partnership Dialogue on Food Security.
